Greenway Plaza Wins International TOBY Award

The coveted International TOBY (The Outstanding Building of the Year) award is the highest honor in the commercial office management industry and distinguishes Greenway Plaza as the best managed and operated office park in its class on an international level.

Greenway Plaza received the International TOBY Award for outstanding suburban office park of the year on Tuesday evening, June 29th at the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International Conference held at the Long Beach Convention Center in California. Bob Carlen, vice president of property management for Greenway Plaza and Jim Wilson, managing director of Asset Management for Crescent attended the conference and accepted the award for the property. "Crescent is honored to be recognized for our efficient office design, our customer service and for the amenities that we provide our customers, such as Energy Star certified energy efficient buildings," said Bob Carlen. "The significance of the TOBY award is that it recognizes Greenway Plaza as the most professionally managed and operated office property in its class on an international level -- a premier master planned business development offering an environment uniquely tailored to the needs of today's businesses. We felt very privileged to have won the local and regional awards but to be distinguished on the international level is beyond tremendous."

The Outstanding Building of the Year (TOBY) Award, honoring the "best of the best" in commercial buildings, saw outstanding participation during the 2009-2010 awards cycle with a record 94 regional winners from the US, Canada and England competing for the international award in 14 categories. Greenway was among 6 other competing properties in the suburban mid-rise office park category. Competitors were from locations including: Pointe Claire, Canada; Tampa, Florida; Shelton, Connecticut; Oak Brook Terrace, Illinois and East Palo Alto, California that are owned and operated by well known companies such as Morguard Investments Limited, Carter and Associates Asset Management, RD Scinto Management, CB Richard Ellis, Inc. and Wells Real Estate. In the end Greenway was victorious even though the property is 42 years old and was the oldest property competing in its category.

The property and its management team were also honored at the opening breakfast that same morning for receiving the BOMA 360 Performance Building designation for all 10 Greenway buildings in 2009 and again in 2010. The 360 Performance Building designation is awarded to commercial properties that demonstrate best practices in all major areas of building operations and management. The designation distinguishes properties that display the highest standards of excellence. The 360 Program was inaugurated in 2009 when 23 properties in the country received this honor. Out of the 23 recognized nationally in 2009, Greenway received 10 of those awards.

Greenway Plaza Buildings Receive Prestigious 360 Performance Designation

Greenway is the only property in Houston to receive the 360 Designation which identifies properties that are managed to the “Highest Standards of Excellence”. Greenway took home 10 of 23 designations awarded nationwide.

The Building Owners and Managers Association International (BOMA) presented the 360 Performance Building Designation to all ten Greenway Plaza buildings on June 29, 2009 at the BOMA International Conference in Philadelphia. The Inaugural Program was established to validate and recognize commercial properties that demonstrate best practices in all major areas of building operations and management. The Program evaluates six major areas of building operations and management and benchmarks a building’s performance against industry standards. Greenway Plaza received 40% of the designations that were awarded throughout the country and is the only property in Houston to receive this recognition.

Bob Carlen, Greenway’s Vice President of Property Management and the man in charge of the property since 1992 had this to say about the designations: “Greenway Plaza has always held to the highest standards of excellence in management, operations and customer service and we are proud to be recognized as one of the nations best run properties. This is a tremendous honor not only for the property but for all of the members of Greenway’s management team. Our team is a well oiled machine made up of dedicated individuals who are committed to providing superior service to our customers and to making Greenway the best it can be. I am honored to work along side this group of professionals and I don’t mean just the managers. I’m talking about the building and central plant engineers, those members in accounting, security, leasing and administrative capacity. Every individual is an important part of what we do. It’s nice to see the team receive confirmation of their efforts.”

Crescent Realty Day award

2006
Crescent honored by the City of Houston

Crescent Realty Day - The high-rise fire simulation is a premier training platform that seeks to provide joint training of firefighters and building management. This cooperative process provides a progressive real-world training method that benefits both the private and public safety communities. A partnership between Crescent Real Estate and the Houston Fire Department (HFD), has resulted in the completion of twelve high-rise fire simulations, and the successful training of more than 700 firefighters. The addition of the Houston Chapter of the Houston Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) further strengthens this strategic partnership between the Houston Fire Department and the high-rise commercial building community.

Chuck Hutchinson, Senior Security Manager for Crescent, spearheaded this partnership effort and brought all of the pieces together. Crescent Real Estate also made a very generous donation to HFD of much needed equipment for their training exercises.

The City of Houston salutes Crescent Realty for its role in this important partnership, and extends best wishes for continued success and cooperation.

Therefore, I, Bill White, Mayor of the City of Houston, herby proclaim November 15, 2006, as Crescent Realty Day in Houston Texas.
